Built sometime in the 15th century, Baddesley Clinton is a moated manor house noted for its historical importance and Elizabethan Tudor architecture. The manor contains paintings of the Ferrer lineage, which has made the house its home for over 500 years. After the Protestant Reformation in England, the Ferrer family remained Roman Catholic, and throughout the house you can explore the secret passages they built to conceal and protect Catholic priests. A beautiful estate surrounds the manor house. You can explore the garden and take a walk on trails that wind through 200-year-old oaks. To think how this home has survived many centuries is remarkable - despite being built surrounded by a moat and using porous stone quarried locally. The secret, in part, was to age the stone for at least a year whilst the pores sealed! And to establish very good diplomatic relations with the ruling factions. On a spring morning the flowers in the court yard were exquisite and my wife ranked the scones amongst the best of our trip so far!

The staff were very friendly and open to discuss anything about the house which I found welcoming. I wasn't too sure how my 5 year old daughter would find the experience but they had managed to include a small task for children within each room which helped to keep their attention and focus. Definately an interesting place to visit. I enjoyed learning something new here.
