Kenilworth Castle allows you to imagine how life when Queen Elizabeth I frequented the area. Rich in history, the castle claims to be the site of the longest siege in English history, lasting six months in 1266 CE. The castle itself offers numerous architectural styles, evolving from its original design as a Norman tower into a Renaissance palace. The Elizabethan Gardens on site, once lost for over 400 years, are now restored to their former glory. They feature carved arbors, a bejwelled aviary, and the spectacular marble fountain. Explore the castle ruins and the Elizabethan Garden while listening to the audio tour--for both adults and children--which is included in the price of the ticket. Be sure to visit the exhibition in the gatehouse, which provides a comprehensive overview of the castle and the history of the area. Fun day out with a historical theme. We went on a Thursday and despite it being school holidays, it wasn't too busy. Guide books, audio tours and guided tours available. Good signs with enough detail to understand what you're looking at without those if preferred. Not very accessible for those not on two feet - the gatehouse had a lift to all floors but the rest of the ruins would require some mobility to get around. Most of the stairs are pretty safe though unlike some old castles where you have to wonder how everyone who lived in them didn't break their necks! Great for those who like royal history, the Elizabethan Gardens are also lovely, with a fountain, obelisks and aviary. Apparently they will peak in July (which was when Queen Elizabeth visited) but were great in April with lots of tulips. Cafe good and no queue, quite a limited menu but all very nice. There was an interesting looking pub across the street, the Queen & Castle, might be worth looking at if you want a full meal. Only downside was limited toilet facilities, just one small set with two cubicles in the ladies (not sure about the gents!) and accessed via a short set of steps so not great for accessibility.

Very good grounds containing the castle and gardens. A good amount to explore in and around the castle but not as much as I hoped/wanted (some areas closed off). Garden was very good - well presented if not very large. Stables holding a few displays and the tea room/takeaway cafe. Staff were very friendly and informative. Excellent parking nearby.
