Create an itinerary including Gloucester Cathedral
A filming location for three Harry Potter films, Gloucester Cathedral is also one of England's most attractive cathedrals. Its foundation dates back to the establishment of an abbey here in the seventh century. Today you'll find a fine example of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about the cathedral's intricate details, such as the Norman roof from the Early English period and the medieval glass in the east window. For views over the whole complex and out into Gloucester, walk the 269 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral's renowned choir performs regularly, so check its schedule to hear a concert. You can also attend a religious service here. Add Gloucester Cathedral to your Gloucester travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Gloucester trip itinerary website.

  • Beautiful cathedral. The kids will love the whispering gallery upstairs, where you can hear each other from opposite sides of the building. Try taking photos from indoors of the outstanding stained glass windows. Entrance to the cathedral is free with a voluntary donation suggested. Usefully there is a small toilet building outside the cathedral.
  • Real banger of a cathedral, make sure you go up into the gallery. Probably you want about 90 min to see the outside and fully see the inside. Little cafe is okay, there are some nearby pubs in Gloucester (including a cute old coaching inn) which has good food and a good pint.
