Stresa — 3 nights

Stresa is a town and comune of about 5,000 residents on the shores of Lake Maggiore in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, about 90km northwest of Milan. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Palazzo Borromeo and Chiesa di San Vittore. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Basilica di San Giulio and Vetta di Mottarone. Venture out of the city with trips to La Playa (in Cadrezzate), Pista Ciclopedonale del Lago di Comabbio (in Comabbio) and Cantina Fontechiara (in Borgomanero). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Villa Bossi, don't miss a visit to Lago di Mergozzo, admire the landmark architecture of Santuario della Madonna del Sasso, and look for all kinds of wild species at Oasi Zegna.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiports are Malpensa International Airport, Milano Linate Airport and Milan Bergamo Airport. In June in Stresa, expect temperatures between 31°C during the day and 17°C at night.
