Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Venice: Padua (Prato della Valle, Padua Botanical Garden - World Heritage Site, &more) and Verona (Torre dei Lamberti, Piazza delle Erbe, &more). There's still lots to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica di San Marco, explore the activities along Canal Grande, contemplate the long history of St Mark's Campanile, and admire the masterpieces at Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

Fly from Venice to Athens in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and bus. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Venice to Athens due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Venice in July, Athens is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 28°C. On the 13th (Wed), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can fly back home.
