Nestled in a valley between snowcapped peaks, Innsbruck evokes visions of a winter wonderland.
Take a break from the city and head to Rosshutte and Achensee. The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) and Swarovski Kristallwelten are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Tyrol's capital and one of the nation's wealthiest cities, Trento serves as the commercial and cultural center of the region.
MUSE - Science Museum and Merano Centro Storico are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Erboristeria Malvina and Martist di Maurizio Boscheri. Venture out of the city with trips to Castel Thun (in Ton), Mostra Miniature e Presepi (in Andalo) and Santuario di San Romedio (in Coredo). Traveling from Innsbruck in October, expect nights in Trento to be about the same, around 9°C, while days are a bit warmer, around 22°C. Located in the popular holiday region of Ticino, Lugano is the largest Italian-speaking town in Switzerland.
Get outdoors at Monte San Giorgio and Monte San Salvatore. Shop till you drop at Baba J and Fondazione Gabriele e Anna Braglia. Get out of town with these interesting Lugano side-trips: Serfontana (in Morbio Inferiore), OnArte (in Minusio) and Valle Verzasca (in Lavertezzo). In the Aosta Valley bordering Switzerland and France, the medieval city of Aosta is famous for its prime skiing conditions and rich cultural history.
