Chisinau — 8 nights

Chișinău Etymology and namesThe origin of the city's name is unclear, but in one version, the name comes from the archaic Romanian word chișla (meaning "spring", "source of water") and nouă ("new"), because it was built around a small spring, at the corner of Pușkin and Albișoara streets. The other version, formulated by Ștefan Ciobanu, Romanian historian and academician, holds that the name was formed the same way as the name of Chișineu (alternative spelling: Chișinău) in Western Romania, near the border with Hungary. When in Chisinau, make a side trip to see Old Orhei Archeological Complex in Trebujeni, approximately Trebujeni away. And it doesn't end there: walk around Dendrarium Park, do a tasting at Cricova Winery, appreciate the history behind Stephen the Great Monument, and make a trip to Victory Memorial and Eternal Flame.

Moldova travel guide

As one of the smallest countries in Europe, Moldova earned its independence in 1991 and remains quite unknown to most of the world. As Moldova is located between Romania and the Ukraine, much of its culture borrows elements, such as language and traditional food, from its two neighbors. Moldova sports a rugged countryside with a mild and sunny climate thanks to the neighboring Black Sea. This region's outdoor activities--biking, hiking, horseback riding, and exploring caves--are its main attractions. While Moldova doesn't attract much tourism, it is one of the last places in Europe where you can get a completely authentic local experience.
