Located on the site of a 15th-century Genoese wooden fort, Soroca Fortress boasts an impressive stone edifice, and is a must-see for history buffs. At the center of Soroca city, situated on the right bank of the Dniester river, the fortress was a fortified trading post built by Stephen the Great in 1499 to protect his goods from Polish and Hungarian forces. Wander the halls of this castle tower, and take in the views of the castle town and surrounding countryside from the fortress walls. The fortress does not offer guided tours, but you can take a self-guided tour, or hire a local tour guide. • Badly, this one is closed in the last two years, there are still repairs to do inside, but outside the restoration was nice, good shape.

  • A must visit nice place in Moldova! Recently it was well renovated. Dont forget to take a guide to feel and understand better its history...
  • Looks great from the outside, no idea about the inside as it is closed for an archaeological investigation at the moment. At two and a half hours from Chisinau is it worth visiting? For me, with Soroca's other delights, yes, but for many less nerdy people I doubt it.
