National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History
Housed in an elaborate, Turkish-style building, National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History offers insight into Moldova's natural history and the culture of its people. First opened in 1889 as an agricultural museum, the institution expanded and moved to a purpose-built facility in 1905. Split into two distinct areas of scientific study, the museum provides exhibits and information about the country's flora, fauna, and geography. Of particular interest are the museum's botanical gardens, which are the oldest in the country, and the skeleton of a dinothere. The museum provides guides in English, French, and Russian for a small price. Put National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History and other Chisinau attractions into our Chisinau road trip site, and watch your holiday take shape.

This museum is the best museum in Chisinau at this point. The building itself is beautiful and the interior designed with great effort. But it badly needs some renovation, it looks like it was done...

Gorgeous building. Inside it covers both natural history as well as ethnography. This means there are lots of displays of types of soil, stuffed animals and birds and fossils and so on. There is also an enormous mammoth skeleton that is quite impressive. If, like me you main interest is in local vernacular crafts you won't be disappointed, though it is not the main focus. There is a large display of local costume featuring beautiful embroidery, wood carving, basket weaving etc, which is lovely but it is distinctive versus the surrounding countries? That's beyond my level of appreciation.

From outside, it seems almost like abandoned building. But as you enter, it is packed with various very interesting exhibits of Moldovan culture and wildlife. Also it's great place for kids. Very great visual experience.
