Create an itinerary including Castello Scaligero
Bordered on three sides by Lake Garda, Castello Scaligero originally served as a port defense for Verona's medieval lords. Visit the 13th-century castle that stands guard over the town of Sirmione and its peninsula to see rooms filled with artifacts. Admire the crenellated walls and impressive stone towers, as well as the moat and a drawbridge. You can climb to the top for views of the town, lake, and countryside. For a different perspective, take a boat tour on the lake; many include the castle on their itineraries. • The view was nice, but that's about it. Very small inside with nothing to see/interact with. Booked online through the castle museum website to skip the queue only to be told that it's not a thing...

  • The castle was closed when we visited, and I thought "not another medieval fortress town, but this town of Sirmione is another site that should not be overlooked. Wider streets than found in other similar vintage fortifications, but this, worth the added safety of the surrounding water was able to evolve in a much more open manner. Great food available also but get out of the tourist areas for the good finds.
  • One of the most beautiful and ancient tourist sites I've visited. It's pretty awesome in the summer. Tourist. Luxurious cars. Fun seekers. Well laid out streets.
