  • Saw this beautiful church on my way to the Castle in the older part of town. It dates back to the XIII-XIV centuries and has characteristics of the Romanesque-Gothic style. The facade, in white and pink ashlars, is simple and has few decorations on the facade: a rose window and a pointed arch portal with a lunette in which a colored image of San Francesco is placed. It is accessed by a stone staircase that is poorly maintained and, in some places, ruined. I read in my tour guide that the construction of this religious building is attributed precisely to the will of Saint Francis. For other scholars it seems more probable that the building was built in the place where the poor man of Assisi preached in the town. I was not a little sorry not to be able to visit the interior because I found the church closed. I especially wanted to see and photograph the valuable ancient works of art that I knew were kept there, including a fresco from the thirteenth century. It will certainly be a gap that I will fill in one of my next holidays in the Marche region. I never feel satisfied if I can't admire a building, whether religious or civil, even from the inside. And, in any case, overall, Sassoferrato is a village worth returning to.
  • Church with some considerable jewels including a Christ on the cross of the Giotto school and a circumcision of Warriors. Our guide Prof. Vincenzo pointed out to us a stoup of Roman origin with the Christian symbol of two fish
