The Montemaggio Estate is located in the Commune of Radda in Chianti in the heart of Chianti Clasico region. It is situated where once a 14th century tower stood above the old Roman road beetween Siena and Florence. Montemaggio also features on a map, dating back to 1560, of the “Captains of the Guelph Party” that is housed in the Podestria di Radda. The name Montemaggio derives from “monte maggiore” (Big Mountain) which indicates its elevation location.

The estate, which is a member of the Consortium of Chianti Classico, extends over an area of 70 hectares (about 190 acres) of vineyards, olive groves and woods; it is situated at 600 meters above the sea level. The vineyards which extends over 10 hectares (22 acres) mostly occupy a central position in the estate with the splendid south-west exposure in the terrestrial rich of galestro and alberese. They are mainly planted with Sangiovese, with addition of small portions of Merlot.

  • Great tour, very detailed and explained process more than other tours will go on. We did the blind tasting also which was fun at the end. Francisco and the team there are very easy to get a long with and explain things to wine drinkers but not experts like myself very well. I would highly recommend. FYI, to get there, will be 5-10 min dirt road to get there. Have to book tour on website to get into the gates. They do not do tours by walk in.
  • Francesco was an excellent host and guide. On this tour, even without knowing anything about wines in general, you learn every part of the process, and get to taste a lot of different wines. Very nice and intimate experience!
