Create an itinerary including Battistero di San Giovanni
The construction of Battistero di San Giovanni, the largest baptistery in Italy, started in 1152 but unsurprisingly considering its size wasn’t finished until 1363. Take in the imposing 55 m (180 ft) building with its circumference of 107 m (352 ft). Observe how the building leans 0.6 degrees towards Pisa's cathedral. It was built on the same unstable sand as the famous leaning tower. The grand exterior architecture transitions from Romanesque style in the lower section to Gothic in the higher section. Inside the baptistery are stained-glass windows and a bronze statue of Saint John the Baptist. On two of the pillars, look for the signature of Diotisalvi, who designed the building. • Beautiful domed building in the Piazza dei Miracoli. Huge doors surrounded by lovely marble bricks and carvings. You need to pay for entry but easy to see a lot of the features from outside.

  • Tickets required, recommended to get the 10€ one. The structure itself is a beautiful one and has built in acoustics. RECOMMENDED, to stay there for the 30 minute mark of each hour and the start of each hour as there is usually a lady who demonstrates the acoustics. Inside is a spacious room said to be used for baptism once a year, lined with about a dozen or more stained glass pieces.
  • The construction is beautiful and the building is somewhat simple on the inside. It is worth visiting as part of the 10 euro complete pass, but probably not worth to purchasing separately. There are three steps where you can sit along the sides. It would benefit from more plaques explaining the few stone decorations. The stained glass appeared relatively new.
