Explore the World Heritage-listed heart of a 15th-century Renaissance town at Piazza Pio II. The town square played a revolutionary role as the first application of the Renaissance Humanist concept of urban design. Pope Pius II's 1459 decision to rebuild Pienza included the addition of this central city square. The concept of the planned "ideal town" would go on to play a significant role in subsequent urban development. The square connects the three ruling powers of the historical city--civic, religious, and trading interests. Take in the architecture, and then stop by a local cafe. • Pienza is a beautiful city, but the square is not that impressive. Wish there was a way to give reviews on cities, because the city around the square is very charming

  • As far as churches go it’s not the most significant nor the biggest however it is quite a sight to behold. The architecture and maintaining of the building is excellent, and definitely one of them more better design churches out there in Italy. I’d highly recommend checking it out.
  • The entire town is like a small jewel. Loved it . Try the local cheese - best pecorino in the world
