Fragments of ancient mosaics in the crypt of Cattedrale di Parma are evidence of a cult temple that existed before the church was established. The entire church is covered with artwork from the beginning of Italy's artistic golden age. Bertolino de'Grossi, Prospero Clemeti, Girolamo Clemeti, and Luchino Bianchini are just some of the artists who contributed to the architecture. The side chapels were built to shelter the sepulchres of Parma's noble families. Some retain the original decor from the 14th century. The capitals that represent both mythological creatures and Biblical scenes sit next to each other. • Walked out of the Baptistry and into the Cathedral. Must admit I preferred the Cathedral. Very impressive...

  • Entry to this cathedral is free (so many churches are charging fees in Italy!). Inside there’s an enormous empty space. Sadly there’s no sign of it being a place of worship anymore - we couldn’t find....  more

  • Me and my family visited during Christmas. It has one of the few sculptures were baby Jesus is being embrace in such a cute way, like a father might do :) I think is the statue of Saint Joseph but I will double check. It was accessible in wheelchair which was perfect for my grandma a.k.a la nonna. Some sections she saw from afar, but she was happy she could visit most of the infrastructure (85% I would say)
  • Beautiful cathedral. One of the highlight of the visit in Parma. I recommend to eat in a very nice restaurant just outside the cathedral.
