Create an itinerary including Underground Naples
See the other side (literally) of the city with Underground Naples, offering a chance to tour a place some 40 m (130 ft) below the historic center of Naples. This secret, underground city remains a world apart from what you see above ground--a network of tunnels, Greco-Roman aqueducts, and air raid shelters from World War II. The tour takes you on a journey through history and provides a look at the city's turbulent past, from the ancient until the modern times. Most of the passages you'll see during the evocative tour were originally cut by ancient Greeks, who extracted tufa stone from this site. Part of your excursion will take place by candlelight and will lead through some very narrow passages--keep that in mind if you don't like tight, dark spaces. • My wife and I walked up and booked a tour same day. The underground portion was very cool to see and walk through, however our guide nearly ran through the tour and just gave us the bare minimum...

  • Great experience walking through the underground tunnels and learning the history. There are a few different ones but this one situated in San Gaetano,68 is the best. I highly recommend it.

  • Absolutely chaos at the ticket office. No instructions (in English) and no one knows what’s happening. They could have given clear instructions to form orderly queues but per all other Italian institutions, there’s no such thing. 0 stars for the ticketing system and the staff at the entrance. 5 stars for the guide himself and the tour. It was a great tour (especially the part outside where the Roman theatre remains were shown. ) Very interesting and informative
  • One of the best things we did on our trip to Italy and of course Naples. Loved the tour. Loved the guide. Was so interesting. Went over 2 hours and was great value. Most people didn't leave the excellent guide a tip and just walked away at the end of the tour but a few euros from many people would go a long way. Buy your tickets in advance online. Don't worry about the line when you get there. Everyone with a ticket gets in and once youre in everyone gets shuffled around in large areas.
