Piazza Grande a Montepulciano, Montepulciano

This extensive square represents the heart of Montepulciano. It is surrounded by important buildings as well as the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta which occupies one side. What is striking is the architectural diversity of these buildings which indicates achievements in decidedly distant times. In addition to the Duomo, the square is dominated by the Palazzo Comunale which, due to its tower and crenellated crowning, recalls the Palazzo della Signoria in Florence. The remaining palaces are valuable, among which the Palazzo dei Capitano stands out.
