Acetaia San Matteo, Modena

Visiting this vinegary was one of the most memorable experiences in our 35 days in Italy. Sandra and Luciano are gracious hosts. Sandra speaks very good English. They were welcoming, informative, kind, and helpful to us. They spent a lot of time with us explaining the process and we enjoyed interacting with them. A wonderful experience! Luciano was incredibly inviting he showed us around their factory, describing the balsamic making and aging processes. The smell in the rooms with the barrels is amazing, and the taste is even better. There really is a complex difference between the different ages and barrels. We had initially looked for a balsamic to buy in the shops in Modena, but we are so glad we came out to Acetaia San Matteo and bought straight from the people who make it. It's an experience you can't get from a shop.
