One of the most famous paintings in the world, Leonardo da Vinci's Il Cenacolo is a 15th-century mural in the World Heritage-listed convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. This painting is one of the most studied, scrutinized, and satirized works of art ever. It was created for the artist's patron, Ludovico Sforza, and represents the scene of the last supper attended by Jesus and all of his disciples, as told by the Gospel of John. The painting measures 460 cm by 880 cm (180 in by 350 in) and covers an end wall of the convent's dining hall. Though little of the original painting remains today, repeated restoration efforts have prevented the image from completely deteriorating. To see this masterpiece, you must book tickets ahead of time, often months in advance. Go online to explore guided tour options and see available time slots. • Obviously it's always an amazing opportunity when you get to see a masterpiece before your very eyes. So definitely visit if you can! You definitely want to book tickets way in advance though because it seems to sell out quick. Museum should consider extended hours so everyone who wants to witness these masterpieces are well able to. Plus one can make more money from doing so as well!
  • A humbling experience seeing such a celebrated work of art. You can tell they have done their utmost to preserve the piece. The museum itself is small, you get 15 minutes to view the painting. There are some boards with additional information to read after the viewing time has elapsed. For 15 euros it is worth it. Please be aware, the ticket office opens at 08:00am. So if you are booked on the 08:15am visit slot then this is the earliest that you can collect your tickets (the email states the arrive 30 minutes prior to visit slot). Drinks are not permitted inside the museum itself. There are free lockers available, however drinks must be inside a bag and cannot be stored on their own.
