The Galleria d'Arte Moderna is a modern art museum in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It is housed in the Villa Reale, at Via Palestro 16, opposite the Giardini Pubblici. The collection consists largely of Italian and European works from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
The museum has works by Francesco Filippini, Giuseppe Ferrari, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Boldini, Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Francesco Hayez, Giovanni Segantini, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo and Antonio Canova, among others. It has received donations from Milanese families including Treves, Ponti, Grassi and Vismara.
After the Second World War the twentieth-century works in the collection were moved to the Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, built in 1955 on the site of the former stables of the palace, which had been destroyed by wartime bombing. • Modern art is misleading. Most of the works are 18-19 century works. And as a 18-19 century works museum, it's not too rich. We found only a few interesting works. Finally, the staff wasn't helpful.....  more

  • One of my favorite museums in the city. Entry is very cheap and there is a lot to see! Especially loved the works by Angelo Marbelli and the Induno Brothers. Also lovely to see more of Francesco...

  • Not the kind of mordem I was expecting! But I’m really pleased with the overall visit! Besides the pairing there are some really entertaining sculptures and some product designs in some of the rooms. The gallery is pretty easy to navigate even without a map but I believe they provide you with one anyways when you’re buying your ticket I got there 1 hour after they opened so it was pretty empty and calm.
  • What a gem! Especially the 2nd floor, which is a bit difficult to find. Ask the very friendly staff to show you the stairs to access it. The only thing i would improve is the lightning. It is sometimes really bad and one has to really move around to get a good view of some of the paintings.
