Chiesa di San Michele, Massino Visconti

Church of ancient origins (its foundation dates back to the mid-11th century), San Michele is to be seen above all for two reasons. The first is the beautiful Romanesque bell tower with six mirrors, built between 1025 and 1050, whose peculiarity is that it is tilted following a landslide that hit the building in 1585, until then used as the parish church of Massino Visconti. The second are the marvelous fifteenth-century frescoes that adorn the apse, attributed to the workshop of Giovanni de Campo (from 1440 - before 1483); and indeed, if compared with those made by him in the atrium-vestibule of the parish church of San Colombano in Biandrate, its exquisitely late Gothic features can be recognized, in particular in the Christ Pantocrator enclosed in the almond.
