Create an itinerary including Palazzo Te
A masterpiece designed by architect Giulio Romano, Palazzo Te is a blend of palace and villa architecture. The four facades with rustic-looking walls and flat pilasters appear symmetrical. Take a closer look, though, and you'll see that the spaces between the columns do not match. Few windows in the inner courtyard, plus an uneven and broken plaster textures, add to the true Mannerist style Romano loved. The exterior of the palace was finished quickly, but the interior took ten years to complete. An entire team of decorators covered every room with frescoes. The most famous is Romano's invented dome on the ceiling in the Room of Giants. Using our world travel planner, Mantua attractions like Palazzo Te can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • A little sterile as a property but the murals are breath taking. Take time to really study them - so much detail.

  • A must if you’re visiting Mantova. Fabulous art and architecture. Best seen in a sunny day; buying tickets in advance is useful to skip the queue. Audio guides are cheap and useful to learn about the design and details (5€) and must be played on your own phone (so make sure you have your headphones with you if your phone does not have an headphone jack) Good snack bar at the end.
  • This is a little palace with very nice wall paintings. You need as a minimum 2 h, but you can spend easily more time if you look into details. There is a nice Cafe if you need a break.
