Basilica di Sant'Andrea di Mantova
One of the major works of 15th-century Renaissance architecture in northern Italy, Basilica di Sant'Andrea di Mantova is the central co-cathedral and minor basilica of Mantova. Commissioned in 1462 on the site of a Benedictine monastery (of which the bell tower remains), the building took 328 years to complete. The basilica is most famous for housing the Preziosissimo Sangue di Cristo, a relic that is believed to contain the blood of Christ. The building was originally erected in order to accommodate the many pilgrims who would flock over the centuries to see the sacred vessels. If you wish to enter the crypt to visit the reliquary, ask one of the church's volunteers. We visited this basilica twice, and were fortunate the 2nd time to be given an extensive tour and oral history by one of the volunteer guides. As it was July 2020, there were very few people visiting.

The Highest Bell Tower And Dome In Mantua.

From the outside, it looks like any other cathedral. However, appearances can be deceiving, the inside is gorgeous. The interiors are breathtaking. Even if you're not a religious person, I would recommend you to go and have a peek inside this beautiful church.
