Ig: marklopezzz Really enjoyed this lake and the hike that come with it. We parked at Passo Tre Croci and hiked on 215 towards Refugio Varnelli. Pretty easy hike with a few difficult uphills. A few exposed areas. On the way back we hiked on 216 and 213. This was a difficult hike but very rewarding. Not really for beginners but we managed.

I’d highly recommend checking the weather before starting this hike. We came prepared with good gripping shoes and rain coat (late August). Fortunately it rained heavily only for the first quarter mile…yay! The first half of the trail is a breeze so you’ll get a good warm up for the second half, which is quite steep and more challenging after it’s rained. It requires more caution on the exposed rocky sections as it’s quite slippery so appropriate grippy shoes are a must. Bring cash if you plan on eating at the Refugio near the lake. As for the crowds, it wasn’t as bad as we’d expected… could be because of the rain? If you hang out by the lake for some time you’ll notice they come and go in waves. A little bit of patience will get you that IG pic you came all the way out here for ;-p. Quick tip! Around 30ish minutes into the hike the trail splits. Go left, downhill. The trail to the right along the rock ends, but first leads to some caves that people use as a bathroom. I wish I could erase that image from my memory! Ugh!
