Visit Duomo Vecchio di Brescia, one of the best examples of Rotunda Romanesque architecture in Italy and the co-cathedral of Brescia, along with the Duomo Nuovo next door. Dating from the 11th century, the imposing round cathedral contains a sixth-century crypt, the marble sarcophagus of Berardo Maggi, and the Bonino de Campione sepulcher. On the right wall you'll see the organ built by Feltrinelli Anteganti in 1536, with all of its original phonic material preserved. • Splendid old building, below modern street level. Be prepared to go down and come back up stairs. Sung Mass in Latin with plainsong every Sunday at 11.

  • This is really something. Different from the newer church. Two stairways lead to the Crypt of San Filastro under the presbytery, which was built in Romanesque times (IX - XI century) making generous use of building materials from Roman ruins. It was part of the first basilica and has a nave and four small aisles ending in three little apses.
  • Very nice Romanesque cathedral with unique works of art. Beware the opening times as they can be problematic for the average visitor without too much time to spare. The whole church has a permanent exhibition which mostly consists of panels with pictures and explanations on the history of the building. Notable are the crypt and the main chapel behind the high altar: it contains several beautiful pieces of both fresco and painting.
