  • The Torre is situated in a quaint piazza. The piazza offers great views of the surrounding mountains. The two eating establishments in the piazza were not so appealing visually.

  • It is one of the symbols of Bormio It is an ancient tower (originally perhaps from the 1200s..) with a clock on the façade (hence the second name, "Tower of the hours"...) and which was once equipped with an enormous bell (the Bajona. ..) which was rung to warn of dangers or for meetings. It dominates the Kuerc square.
  • The Torre della Bajona - also called Torre delle Ore or Torre Civica - is a tower located in Bormio, in piazza Cavour - or piazza del Kuerc. Imposing and very characteristic, it is the bell tower of the town. The first written records date back to the 14th century, although it is probable that it was built a century or two earlier. The tower takes its name from the Bajona, the large bell that gathered the citizens or tolled important anniversaries. The bell was recast, following various damages suffered, in the seventeenth century. The two bells obtained have been maintained until now and still ring from the top of the Tower. The facade of the Tower is dominated by the clock, surrounded by a fresco - now present only in a small part - where the coats of arms of Bormio can be seen in the four corners, a white cross on a red field. With a perimeter of about 32 meters at the base, it has dovetail battlements - a sign of Ghibelline membership - which highlights the community's support for the emperor.
