Chiesa di San Giacomo, Biella

Small church in the Piazzo di Biella, also reachable from the Costa delle Noci, rather steep and direct, from the 13th century. I almost always found it closed but I will have to be able to visit it before I leave the city. Connected to the Via Francigena and the circuit of the churches of the Cammino di Compostella.

It is the oldest medieval building preserved in the Piazzo. The building preserved today is the one consecrated in 1227 by Bishop Ugo di Sessa and then remodeled in later times: the bell tower was added later, but is already mentioned in two documents from the late thirteenth to the early fourteenth century; the portico is from the seventeenth century; inside, the burial grounds located under the floor are from the sixteenth century; the stuccos, which cover the medieval structures, date back to 1862. Inside the church are preserved various works of artistic interest: the carved choir (1697/1698), the fifteenth-century triptych by Daniele de Bosis (with the Madonna and Child, the Saints Gottardo and Giacomo with the donor Giacomo Dal Pozzo) and the Baroque Baptistery
