Explore the doll museum at Rocca Borromeo, an 11th-century castle in the countryside surrounding Lago Maggiore. You will find one of the largest doll collections in Europe, featuring everything from antique to modern dolls. Keep an eye out for the small displays on winemaking and medieval paintings as well. When you are finished, climb the castle towers for a breathtaking view of the lake and the Alps. Plan a trip to Lake Maggiore easily and quickly by telling Inspirock to suggest an itinerary.

Fantastic castle. Really don’t understand why this isn’t on the hit list for Lake Maggiore. Tricky-ish to get to. From Arona the slightly erratic ferry takes 5 minutes to get across the lake. Go to...

An amazing castle with a unique view of Lago Maggiore. Beautifully maintained and still owned by the ancient Borromeo dynasty. Well worth a visit.

The cafeteria of the Rocca is very very nice, so much so that we arrived on purpose by lake (and then on foot in the sun at 1pm) just to have something to eat with friends. I had called to book the same morning but instead of the cafeteria the switchboard of the Rocca Borromeo answered me, telling me that the bar did not accept reservations, so to arrive and take a seat. Too bad that once we arrived at the entrance, the gentlemen of the ticket office did not let us in because there was an event, and the cafeteria is located shortly after entering the walls of the fortress. Telephone operators are decidedly poorly informed and even less professional!

I would actually give two points for the scenic view, but charging €1.5 per person for cover (for coffee and cake) knocks the bottom out. Coffee is a joke. Actually, every Italian should feel personally attacked if something like this were served to him. Cake clearly looks and tastes like a freezer.
