Create an itinerary including Archaeological Site of Delos
Hop on a ferry to see Archaeological Site of Delos, the birthplace of twins Apollo and Athena--the god of light and the goddess of wisdom. The entire island is uninhabited and serves as an archaeological site, so explore at your leisure. Climb to the top of the highest hill for a panoramic view of the surrounding sea and nearby islands. Take photographs of the famous stone lions that grace the road leading to the three temples of Apollo, and at the museum view some of the artifacts discovered in what is now a World Heritage Site. Consider hiring a guide in advance to help you understand what you are seeing. Shade is limited, and the cafe on the island is pricey, so bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks. • We spent the day there. Our guide was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, well paced, and funny. The ruins were glorious. We trekked up the mountain to get some fantastic shots. Highly recommend it.
  • Very interesting island with lots of houses, statues and historical artifacts with well explained reading! Easily accessible and well maintained. One star less because there is room for improvement: - provide resting areas with shade and benches as it is a really desertic and hot island - currently no drinking water on the island (no need for a touristic restaurant or bar, but may be a little kiosk would help)
