Relatively small in size but steeped in history, Old Nicholas Church (Alte Nikolaikirche) was once the church of city leaders and today serves as the home of the local Lutheran congregation. This double-aisle Early Gothic church was mentioned as early as the 13th century, but it is believed that the core of the structure is considerably older. The church is noted for its 47-bell harmonic carillon, Gothic roof gallery, and 14th-century entryway sculptures. Though the substructure of the church's iconic tower was constructed around 1240, the higher stories likely were added during a reconstruction in the 1440s. Throughout the summer months, the church hosts a variety of concerts; visit the official website to see exactly which special events you can attend during your stay. What a majestic great monument this is! I walk here on the first day (10/11/2022) of my personal trip at city Frankfurt am Main. Interior space is very spacious and there are many historic wall carvings. I also learned that many people who visited this church sat on chairs to settle down their minds. This is a good place for people who need to be completely quiet.

A lovely church. Its organ was playing and it calmed me down in a difficult day, there were also prayer candles devoted to stopping the war in Ukraine. I love the red gothic exterior! Situated right on the old town square and available to visit for free!
