Create an itinerary including Musée Archéologique
Experience the rich archaeological findings collected from nearby excavations at Musée Archéologique, a national treasure filled with regional antiquities. Explore permanent collections of regional findings from as far back as 600,000 BCE, up through the Merovingian dynasty and the dawn of the Middle Ages, around 800 CE. The museum is in the basement of the Palais Rohan, with themed rooms in chronological order. Diverse artifacts from local, German, and Roman cultures merge to paint a picture of Alsace during Roman times. Ornate burial grounds, arms, and jewelry of the Bronze and Iron Ages show you how Alsace's ancestors lived. Intricate Merovingian arms and jewelry are local favorites, including the famous Baldenheim helmet, and an awe-inspiring collection of antique glassware. • Yes this is a superb museum but the way it is presented ruined our experience. First it seems many museums in France do not provide a plan nor a flyer which of course is a souvenir of the visit...

  • I believe there are different types of museum tour. We took the palace part, which was enjoyable. The ticket was around 7€ per person for the palace tour.
  • Located in the basement of « Palais Rohan » this museum is quite bigger compared to the two others. I would recommend between 75 and 90 minutes for people, except if you are really into archaeology
