*** Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris was recently damaged by fire and might be currently closed to visitors. Inspirock will update this page as more information becomes available. *** Widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris allegedly contains some of Catholicism's most significant relics, including the purported Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails. Small, individually crafted statues adorn the exterior and serve as column supports and waterspouts; among these are the famous gargoyles and chimeras designed for water run-off. The cathedral is well known for its statue of the Virgin and Child, its antique organ, and its great bell. A large archaeological crypt exhibit combines detailed models of the architecture from different periods as well as underground ruins. You'll see, for instance, the amazing heating system installed under the floor during the Roman occupation. While unfortunately had a fire during renovations, visiting the site's exterior is still worth it! The cathedral is still pretty. Any damage from the fire is clearly not external. It does suck that...

Despite being closed, there was still a lovely atmosphere outside of the building with people playing music - can't wait to come back when it has reopened. I do like that they displayed boards around.... more

Excellent and brilliant institution steeped in history, supported by a brilliant and benevolent management. How lucky to be able to include your child when you live in Paris!!! ABOVE ALL, DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE BRITISH AND DEFAMATORY STATEMENTS OF A PARENT WHOSE CHILD PROBABLY DOES NOT HAVE THE LEVEL OR WHO HAS PUT FORCE IN THIS COURSE WITHOUT IT BEING THE CHILD'S CHOICE (which often happens) AND WHO HAS GIVES THE PENALTIES OF OPENING 3 GOOGLE ACCOUNTS (COUNTING ON THIS NOTICE ONLY, BY THE WAY) TO STUPIDLY TARDEN THIS MASTERY FOLLOWING THIS FAILURE. The institution is each year looking for new talents from all social backgrounds and beliefs, who will be able to stay there in a double school curriculum, which requires a little more seriousness and work than in a classic school curriculum but which is not insurmountable. After 2 years of pre-mastery, which corresponds to 1h30 lessons on Wednesdays, our 1st child (his brother follows the same path) joined the preparatory choir and his 16 hours of weekly lessons (20 hours from the children's choir, from September) per week with a change of school for the double course in flexible hours and we were stunned by the progress during the end-of-school-year concert. We are delighted to see her, her friends and her brother flourish in this Master's degree. You just have to go to a concert of the Maitrise or to a mass where they will be present like at vespers in St Germain l Auxerrois to realize the level. In summary, to recommend without hesitation if the child is motivated.
