The house where Auguste Bartholdi was born in 1834 is now the home of Musee Bartholdi, dedicated to the exemplary artist. The first floor houses an exhibit of the sculptor's works. Upstairs, you'll see original models and plans of his masterpieces, including the Lion of Belfort and the Statue of Liberty in New York. The neighboring room is filled with a beautiful collection of Jewish art, as well as his living quarters, decorated with the artist's personal memorabilia, and another room displaying his family's items and furniture. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Colmar holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Musee Bartholdi and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • How generous of Bartholdi's wife to share their home with the public to house this museum. We learned a lot about this artist and his work. Worth the price of admission.

  • Nice museum, but most information is only displayed in French.
  • Most of the exhibits here aren't in English, but worth witnessing if you have the time. Much of the museum is about Bartholdi's other works - the top floor is dedicated to the statue of liberty.
