Criss-crossed by the canals of the River Lauch, Little Venice formerly served as the butcher's, tanner's, and fisherman's quarter. Originally a rural wine-producing community, commercial gardeners and fishermen inhabited the canal area, which is now the city center of the small town. You can charter a romantic boat to float around the canals and gain a picturesque perspective of the half-timbered houses. • I visited Colmar in an early morning and the town was sleeping under the fog. The village was too peaceful and silent to be waken up. I was impressed by the architecture of houses here as if I was lost in the fairy tales or wonderland where everything was poetic and magical. People here are friendly. They have a market where I had a cup of coffee with a biscuit, also a flea market with many vegetables, and products from merchants.
  • Walking around la petite Venice is like walking into fairyland. With cute Timber-wood and colourful houses all around. We visited twice once in Christmas and once around Jan 1st week. It has a different charm. Highly recommend a boat ride
