Worth seeing if only to see the legendary statute of Dame Carcas who the Cité is named after. This is the main entrance to the ancient city and don’t forget to stop and view the incredible statue outside the main entrance. It’s easy to miss.

Impressive Eastern gate that is the main gateway to the citadel and guarded by two massive twin 30m spur towers. Has a sandstone sculpture of the Lady Carcas (imaginary heroine of a local legend who knows how to defend and save the city against the troops of Charlemagne) watching over the city. I suggest entering through the Porte de l'Aude (although a steeper climb than this one) and then exiting through here.
