Definitely worth a visit but early if weather suitable. Much more peaceful. Great views. And free! Recommend going here and then doing palais of the papes

A hilltop park with some food, playgrounds for children, fountains- and the real attraction, views of the city of Avignon and the River Rhone. It's a bit of a hike to get up top, but well worth a stop, located right next to the Palace of the Popes.
