Create an itinerary including Musee du debarquement
Located in front of the actual vestiges of the Mulberries, Musee du debarquement devotes its exhibits to the incredible feat of technology the British achieved in building the artificial harbor at this site. Watch the period newsreel in English and French. Impressive, dynamic scale models show how the floating docks rolled with the waves and tides. A 75-foot section of Mulberry floating bridge is on display outside. Military equipment is also on view, including an American half-track armored vehicle and a Higgins boat. • Lots to see but it looks as though a new museum will replace this one in the next few years. Needed because this hadn’t changed much since we came some 30 years ago. Nearest car park now seems to...

  • As a family, we were welcomed and allowed to pay… we entered with a stroller only to have a someone from the museum come and tell us they are not allowed. We did fold it and carried our child around.....  more

  • Really cool but quite small museum, currently undergoing some much needed renovation! I was skeptical first walking into the museum, which looks and feels about as old as D-Day itself, but the quality of the exhibits and the amount I learned in such a short period of time really impressed me! Great for learning more about the Mulberry harbours, and a great collection of other pieces in outstanding condition. Also, some really cool models! Haven’t seen many of them in Normandy.
  • It is an emotional experience to visit the Normandy Beaches. This place gives you an idea of how many countries and people were involved in D Day. You can go down and walk on Gold Beach near the museum. I recommend walking on the beaches whenever you can to reflect upon that day and what it must have been like.
