History and beauty combine at Worcester Cathedral, built over a period of over four centuries, starting in 1084. The cathedral represents every style of English architecture, from Norman to Perpendicular Gothic. Noted for its Norman crypt and unique chapter house, the cathedral also features unusual Transitional Gothic bays, fine woodwork, and an iconic central tower. The cathedral contains the tomb of King John who, before his death in 1216, specifically requested to be buried here, between the shrines of St. Wulstan and St. Oswald (which no longer exist). Guided historical tours are offered year round, which you can book online or at the cathedral’s Chapter Office. By using our Worcester road trip planning website, you can arrange your visit to Worcester Cathedral and other attractions in Worcester.

  • Lovely architecture and aura. Friendly volunteers. No charge but voluntary donations. They had machines that you can tap and go or pay cash. Crypt was lovely. There was a display of Christmas trees...

  • Full of religious and royal history, being the resting place of many kings of England including King John of England, dating back to the year 680. A beautiful piece of awe-inspiring architecture steeped in history and religion. Walking through this building certainly evokes many emotions, whether religious or wonder, it is worth the visit!
  • Visited Worcester Cathedral to see the tomb of my 24x Great Grandfather, King John. As a direct descendant of his it was a humbling experience to visit with my two young children. The guides were very informative and the cathedral is magnificent. Worth a visit.
