Tiraspol

— 2 nights
Tiraspol is internationally recognised as the second largest city in Moldova, but is effectively the capital and administrative centre of the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria). Change things up with a short trip to Castel Mimi Wine Resort in Bulboaca (about 38 minutes away). And it doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Bendery Fortress, appreciate the history behind The Suvorov Monument, pick up some local products at Green Market Center, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Noul Neamt Monastery.

To find reviews, more things to do, and more tourist information, refer to the Tiraspol visit planner.

Hamburg, Germany to Tiraspol is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Hamburg to Tiraspol due to the time zone difference. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sun) early enough to go by car to Chisinau.

Chișinău Etymology and namesThe origin of the city's name is unclear, but in one version, the name comes from the archaic Romanian word chișla (meaning "spring", "source of water") and nouă ("new"), because it was built around a small spring, at the corner of Pușkin and Albișoara streets. The other version, formulated by Ștefan Ciobanu, Romanian historian and academician, holds that the name was formed the same way as the name of Chișineu (alternative spelling: Chișinău) in Western Romania, near the border with Hungary. Chisinau is known for parks, museums, and historic sites. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: tour the pleasant surroundings at Dendrarium Park, admire the striking features of Triumphal Arch, learn about winemaking at Cricova Winery, and take an in-depth tour of National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History.

To find more things to do, reviews, traveler tips, and other tourist information, use the Chisinau trip planner.

As one of the smallest countries in Europe, Moldova earned its independence in 1991 and remains quite unknown to most of the world. As Moldova is located between Romania and the Ukraine, much of its culture borrows elements, such as language and traditional food, from its two neighbors. Moldova sports a rugged countryside with a mild and sunny climate thanks to the neighboring Black Sea. This region's outdoor activities--biking, hiking, horseback riding, and exploring caves--are its main attractions. While Moldova doesn't attract much tourism, it is one of the last places in Europe where you can get a completely authentic local experience.
