Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Mon): delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill. Keep things going the next day: admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, explore the ancient world of Pantheon, then don't miss a visit to Piazza Navona, then steep yourself in history at St. Peter's Basilica, and finally explore the ancient world of Colosseum.

Krakow, Poland to Rome is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Traveling from Krakow in January, you will find days in Rome are much hotter (15°C), and nights are somewhat warmer (4°C). Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Florence.

Kick off your visit on the 16th (Thu): steep yourself in history at L’importuno di Michelangelo, examine the collection at Academy Of Florence Art Gallery, take an in-depth tour of Basilica di Santa Croce, snap pictures at Ponte Vecchio, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza del Duomo, and finally steep yourself in history at Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
On the 18th (Sat), get lost in a book at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, then see La Casa Maledetta, then pause for some serene contemplation at Duomo di Milano, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

You can take a train from Florence to Milan in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or fly. Plan for little chillier temperatures traveling from Florence in January, with highs in Milan at 9°C and lows at 0°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Venice.

Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Sun): contemplate the waterfront views at Canal Grande, admire the landmark architecture of Basilica di San Marco, and then explore the world behind art at Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Keep things going the next day: take in panoramic vistas at St Mark's Campanile, examine the collection at Doge's Palace, steep yourself in history at Ponte dei Sospiri, then don't miss a visit to Piazza San Marco, then snap pictures at Ponte di Rialto, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Santa Maria dei Miracoli.
