Cuba's capital and major commercial center, Havana manages to be very old and very modern at the same time.
Get a sense of the local culture at Museum of the Revolution (Museo de la Revolucion) and El Malecon. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Playas de Este and Santa Maria del Mar (Santa Maria Beach). One of the largest resort towns in the Caribbean, Varadero boasts a 20 km (12 mi) long stretch of sand, lined with hotels and all-inclusive resorts.
Pharmaceutical Museum and House of Rum will appeal to museum buffs. Visit Varadero Beach and Coral Beach for some beach relaxation. Go for a jaunt from Varadero to Matanzas to see Bellamar Caves about 40 minutes away. There's lots more to do: stroll through Cayo Blanco, glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, Head underground at Saturno Cave, and don't miss a visit to Parque Central.

You can drive from Vinales to Varadero in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi. In January, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Mon) so you can go by car to Cienfuegos.
