Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Appreciate the collections at Doge's Palace and Vittorio Costantini Workshop. Do some cultural sightseeing at Piazza San Marco and Scrovegni Chapel. Explore Venice's surroundings by going to Fondazione Bisazza (in Montecchio Maggiore) and Verona (Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore & Piazza delle Erbe). There's much more to do: admire the striking features of Basilica di San Marco, explore the activities along Canal Grande, contemplate the long history of Scala dei Giganti di Palazzo Ducale, and admire the masterpieces at Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

Sydney, Australia to Venice is an approximately 24-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. Considered a cultural, artistic, and architectural jewel of Italy, Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Gallerie Degli Uffizi and Pitti Palace. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at M.G. Design and I Mosaici Di Lastrucci. Getting from Venice to Florence by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Colosseum and Pantheon will appeal to history buffs. Get a sense of the local culture at St. Peter's Basilica and Palatine Hill. There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Vatican Museums, steep yourself in history at Roman Forum, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of St. Louis of the French, and don't miss a visit to Trevi Fountain.

Take a train from Florence to Rome in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. January in Rome sees daily highs of 15°C and lows of 4°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Positano.

Often referred to as the gem of the Amalfi Coast, Positano remains one of southern Italy's most sought-after vacation locales, thanks to its hillside location and picturesque, pastel buildings.
You'll get in some beach time at Spiaggia di castiglione and Fornillo. Museum-lovers will get to explore Kundry Bottega d'Arte and Miniaci Art Gallery.
