Head to Barrio de Salamanca and Cava Baja Galleryfor some retail therapy. Get some historical perspective at Alcazar of Segovia and Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Get out of town with these interesting Madrid side-trips: Hoces del Rio Duraton Natural Park (in Sepulveda), Avila (The Walls of Avila, The Four Posts, &more) and Catedral de Segovia (in Segovia). Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Step off the beaten path and head to Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima and Monastery of Alcobaca. For shopping fun, head to Rua Augusta or Rossio Square. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Capela dos Ossos (in Evora), Museu de Aguarela de Alfredo Roque Gameiro (in Minde) and Quinta da Regaleira (in Sintra). There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Batalha Monastery, pause for some photo ops at Arco do Triunfo, step into the grandiose world of Palacio Nacional de Mafra, and take a stroll through Parque das Nacoes.
