Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Palatine Hill and Piazza Navona. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major airports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport. You can take a train from Rome to Florence in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. Traveling from Rome in August, Florence is little chillier at night with lows of 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sat) so you can go by car to Cinque Terre.

Made up of five picturesque towns on the Ligurian coast, Cinque Terre is Italy's answer to the French Riviera.
Visiting Beach Bar Stella Marina and Cinque Terre Trails will get you outdoors. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Castello Doria and Abbazia di San Fruttuoso. Venture out of the city with trips to Castello di Lerici (in Lerici) and Baia del Silenzio (in Sestri Levante). There's much more to do: hike along Footpath Monterosso - Vernazza, explore the historical opulence of Castello di Riomaggiore, do a tasting at Terra di Bargon, and get into the urban bustle at Vernazza.

Traveling by car from Florence to Cinque Terre takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In August, plan for daily highs up to 35°C, and evening lows to 20°C. You'll have a few hours on the 15th (Wed) to wrap things up before traveling to Venice.

Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Wed): take a stroll through Campo del Ghetto. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the activities along Canal Grande, take a stroll through Cannaregio, then take in the views from Ponte di Rialto, then steep yourself in history at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and finally contemplate the long history of Squero di San Trovaso.

Getting from Cinque Terre to Venice by car takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or take a bus. August in Venice sees daily highs of 34°C and lows of 22°C at night. You will have some time to spend on the 18th (Sat) before leaving for home.
