Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Popular historic sites such as Piazza San Marco and Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari are in your itinerary. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at San Giorgio Maggiore and Piazza dei Signori. There's still lots to do: admire the landmark architecture of Scuola Grande di San Rocco, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Church of San Pantalon, pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), and see the interesting displays at Doge's Palace.
