On your way to visit the better known Park Güell, designed by Anroni Gaudí, take a detour to see Casa Vicens, one of his first notable works. This house, commissioned in the 1880s, joined much of Gaudi’s other work on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2005. Walk around the asymmetrical exterior and note the Moorish influences evident in the colorful tiles, turrets, and buttresses. Look for the playful details that Gaudí included and admire the ornate sculptural work. Though the house is a private residence and not open to the public, if you're lucky enough to be in Barcelona on Saint Rita’s Day, (May 22) when the house is opened to “neighbors and citizens,” you might just get a peek inside. Casa Vicens Reviews

Sicuramente uno stabile diverso da chi conosce le opere di Gaudì. Comunque molto bello. Visita interessante. more »
Definitely a different building from those who know Gaudi's works. Anyway very nice. Interesting visit.View original -
Gorgeous place, excellent guide and finally a shop where locally made high class objects are sold. Just perfect and a must see. more »

This is Gaudi’s first major project an it provides a quintessential introduction to the artistic and architectural context within which his work flourished. It is a weird house yet at the same time normal in relation to his later work. If you are looking to understand this Catalan master your tour should probably start here.

Gaudi's first commissioned work. The exterior is very geometric, unlike his later buildings, but shows his genius. The interior is spectacular, well worth the price of admission.
