Discover the quaint, medieval Obidos Village, which is encircled by castle walls. This romantic village is nicknamed the Wedding Present Town because it was a gift from King Dinis to his new wife in 1282. The entire village is a National Monument and is known as an extremely well-preserved example of medieval architecture. Stroll among its charming squares, cobblestone streets, and colorful homes. Visit the town museum, Santa Maria church, Misericordia church, and Amoreira aqueduct. more »
It seems to have prospered from generation to generation under the direct control of the Queen of Portugal until the 19th century. King Dennis, who once visited, was deeply fascinated by the village and presented the village to Queen Isabel. Also known as the "Queen's Village", it seems to have been carefully protected. The main delater street leading to the church was lined with small souvenir shops, candy shops and restaurants, and was crowded with tourists. I purchased Azulejo.View original -

On a day of bate and return departing from Fatima, the first stop was in the walled city of Óbidos. You can park the car for free behind the castle (but it is good to arrive early because there are few vacancies) or at the beginning of the city, paid per hour, near the aqueduct. The main street of Vila de Óbidos is Rua da Direita with many shops and bars and ideal for a beautiful walk. The end of the street is Óbidos Castle with an associated hotel and a bookstore. It's worth a stop to take the famous Ginja de Óbidos in the chocolate cup. It has a nearby Pingo Doce market for those who are by car and worth a stop for those looking for a cheaper lunch. After visiting the village and The Castle of Óbidos, we returned to Fatima with a stop to visit the castles of Porto de Mós, Leiria and Ourém before.View original
