The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (Portuguese pronunciation: [tiˈatɾu nɐsiuˈnaɫ dɨ sɐ̃w̃ ˈkaɾluʃ]) (National Theatre of Saint Charles) is an opera house in Lisbon, Portugal. It was opened on June 30, 1793 by Queen Maria I as a replacement for the Tejo Opera House, which was destroyed in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The theatre is located in the historical center of Lisbon, in the Chiado district.

  • A well run beautiful theatre. I went to see Opera Mary Stuart. Easy to get to, staff very friendly, and the seating arrangments were controlled so no confusion as to where to sit.  more »

  • An opulent yet intimate theater with not enough bathrooms (which btw did not have towels). Seats in Orchestra are old and not ergonomic but leg room is better than at Carnegie Hall.
  • The place makes me feel like I'm rich. It's comfortable and the music the orchestra played left me with goosebumps. Good place to enjoy yourself! 😁
