  • We had a great time on Sintra tour. Our tour host Catia wase exsellent.
  • While it's important that I write about the tour itself, I want to highlight even more how truly exceptional both Mauro (our guide) and Pedro (the owner) are based on how much they went above and beyond for us on our last night in Lisbon, so I'll begin with that. On our last night in Lisbon, our rental apartment got broken into (caution:stay away from HomeAway as they will not act as mediators nor provide any compensation, and stay away from Rent Experience as this was likely an inside job). We had just finished the tour with Mauro that day, and as it was late and we didn't know what to do so we called Mauro and Pedro for help (at that time, we felt Pedro and Mauro are the people we can trust). We were trying to find a hotel that we could all spend the night in rather than at the apartment but everything was booked up. Pedro in the end was able to pull some strings for us. Without hesitation, he also came to pick us up from the apartment and checked us into a hotel (by this time it was close to midnight!) I'm also pretty sure he got us better rates for our rooms which adds up when you need 4 of them. Pedro also learned from Mauro that one our of suitcases was completely busted as a result of the break-in so he gave us one of his, knowing fully well we'd never be able to return it. All thanks to him, we were able to get to a place safe and comfortable enough for us to at least catch a few hours of sleep before catching an early flight the next day. Mauro also stayed in close contact to check-in on us as we were dealing with the police which isn't easy when you're in a foreign country. The next morning, Mauro came to the hotel, also gave us one of his suitcases (which we desperately needed to fit everything) and drove those who were leaving to the airport. Everything both Pedro and Mauro did that night and the morning after was purely acts of kindness. They weren't expecting us to pay them anything, they simply were kind enough to help and we'll never be able to thank them enough! So on top of them doing a wonderful job with the tours, they truly went above and beyond and there is no other tour company I would go with the next time I visit! As for the tour itself, Mauro came prepared with his recommendations of places to visit, but remained flexible to accommodate our preferences as we cared more about getting to take in the beauty of each place rather than trying to pack as much as possible in a day. Sintra is gorgeous and there's a lot of ground you can cover, so it's good to set those expectations upfront of what and how much you want to see. We did leave most of it up to Mauro and he did not disappoint! He took us to a lot of little yet breathtakingly beautiful spots along the drive back to Lisbon. Best of all, they were quiet and except for Cabo da Roca, had 0 tourists. He ended up taking us to a gorgeous ocean-view restaurant for lunch (Nortada) and allowed us to take our time to enjoy a nice sit down, a small beach (Praia das Macas), the famous Cabo da Roca, Praia da Agua Doce, a drive-by of Cascais before making a last pit stop in Belem for the famous Pasteis de Nata (which is truly THE best Pasteis de Nata I've ever tasted, and we had tried quite a number of these while we were in town). The tour was fun and relaxing and we got to see much more than I would have been able to on my own. It's possible to rent a car and do the driving on your own but not without some skill as a lot of it are really narrow, steep, windy dirt paths or cobble roads. He also managed the timing of everything very well so that we were able to get some nice pictures in, including some gorgeous sunset photos by the ocean, and we got into Pena Palace as well as Pasteis de Belem when there was less traffic. Highly recommend going with IGo! Thanks Mauro and Pedro for being so wonderful! Rachel & Cecilia
