Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw

4.1
Take in some of the country's best views from the massive Palace of Culture and Science, one of the city's most important and controversial landmarks. At 114 m (374 ft), it is Poland's tallest building. Visitors can enjoy panoramic vistas from the observation deck, accessible by an elevator. Completed in 1955, the construction was conceived as a gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation, and its architecture blends Socialist Realism with Polish Historicism. Today, the monument is also home to company headquarters, cinemas, theaters, libraries, and educational institutions. Have a drink or a bite to eat in one of the on-site restaurants and bars. Please note, the observation terrace's entrance fee can only be paid with cash. • Very ugly and useless. No redeeming features except as a landmark for the centre of town. Built as a monument to Stalin it simply reveals how grim, grey and grungy communism is!  more »

  • Great view from the tower! Great way to see Warsaw if you're only there for 24hrs. There's a good coffee shop to sit and write postcards, and then there's a post office downstairs where you can buy stamps and send them!
  • Was such a lovely day to go up on it (warning - it gets breezy up there!) But the binoculars swallowed my money and just had no intention of working so that was frustrating. It's only 20 zloty (about 5 euro) or 15 zloty of a student to go up and it's well worth it. The exhibition on the entrance level was also great, but and extra cost.
